Health and Safety Policy

  • All staff members undergo enhanced DBS checks before starting at the nursery, with regular renewals.
  • All staff receive Safeguarding Children training through the local authority, Brighter Futures for Children.
  • Policies are reviewed annually to ensure they reflect best practices.
  • Risk assessments are carried out regularly on all nursery zones and before any activities.
  • Each staff member holds a paediatric First Aid certificate.

Nutrition

  • We provide daily fresh, nutritious healthy meals prepared/cooked at the nursery.
  • We have our own kitchen, including suitable sterilisation equipment for babbies food.
  • Fresh water is continually available at any time.
  • We fully cater for special diets on medical, cultural or religious grounds.
  • Any special diet and food allergies are promptly recorded and communicated on daily bases.
  • All staff involved in preparing and handling food received training in food hygiene. In addition, including guidance on menu planning, food safety, managing food allergies and reading food labels.

  • Weaning usually begins around 6 months of age, but the exact timing can vary depending on the child's readiness and individual development.
  • * It's important for weaning to be gradual. Start by introducing small amounts of pureed or soft foods while continuing to offer milk/formula.
  • * Introduce a variety of flavors and textures to help children develop a taste for different foods. Start with single-grain cereals, pureed vegetables, and fruits.
  • Create a consistent feeding routine to help children understand when to expect solid foods and maintain a sense of security during the transition.
  • Keep an eye on each child's readiness for weaning. Signs include showing interest in adult foods, being able to sit up independently, and having good head and neck control.
  • Be mindful of potential food allergies. Introduce new foods one at a time and monitor for any allergic reactions.
  • Collaborate with parents to ensure consistency between home and the nursery. Share updates on the child's progress and any preferences they may have.
  • Make mealtime enjoyable and encourage exploration of new foods. Creating a positive mealtime atmosphere can help reduce food aversion.


Pick-Up Rules

  • Children are only allowed to leave the nursery with a parent or a previously approved nominated person.

Video Control

  • A video control system is in place outside the nursery to monitor who enters and exits the premises.
  • Inside Policy: There are no video cameras inside the nursery.
  • Staff are required to store their mobile phones in designated lockers as part of a strict no-mobile-phone policy.

Outdoor Play

Our well-secured outdoor area provides a safe environment for children to enjoy games and activities on a soft surface.

Outdoor activities are organized into two groups to ensure safety:

  • Under two years old
  • Pre-school children

Childcare ratio
 

Our Childcare ratio is in line with the Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage:

Ratio for children under 2 years old: 1 adult for 3 children

  • There must be at least one member of staff for every three children.
  • At least one member of staff must hold an approved level 3 qualification and be suitably experienced in working with children under two.
  • At least half of all other staff must hold an approved level 2 qualification.
  • At least half of all staff must have received training that specifically addresses the care of babies.
  • Where there is a room for under two-year-olds, the member of staff in charge of that room must, in the judgement of the provider, have suitable experience of working with under twos.

Ratio for children aged two: 1 adult for 5 children

  • There must be at least one member of staff for every five children
  • At least one member of staff must hold an approved level 3 qualification.
  • At least half of all other staff must hold an approved level 2 qualification.

Ratio for children aged three and over: 1 adult for 8 children

  • There must be at least one member of staff for every eight children.
  • At least one other member of staff must hold an approved level 3 qualification.
  • At least half of all other staff must hold an approved level 2 qualification.

Ratio for children aged three and over in registered early years provision, at any time where a person with Qualified Teacher Status, Early Years Professional Status, Early Years Teacher Status is working directly with children:
1 adult for 13 children

  • There must be at least one member of staff for every 13 children.
  • At least one other member of staff must hold an approved level 3 qualification.

Ratio for children aged three and over in registered early years provision where a person with Qualified Teacher Status, Early Years Professional Status, Early Years Teacher Status is not working directly with children:
1 adult for 8 children

  • There must be at least one member of staff for every eight children.
  • At least one other member of staff must hold an approved level 3 qualification.
  • At least half of all other staff must hold an approved level 2 qualification.
